Kosovo has now begun counting all mail-in ballots cast by citizens living abroad, that voted in the country\u2019s local elections held on October 17.<\/p>\n

The Central Elections Committee (CEC) said that the electoral counting is being carried out at the Center of Counting and Results and that the process will wrap up by the end of the day.<\/p>\n

On Monday, counting will continue for all conditional ballots.<\/p>\n

CEC has officially approved a total of 10.934 mail-in votes and refused 1.324 others, for the first voting round. The main reason for their refusal was the fact that they were sent by citizens that hadn\u2019t been registered to vote within the official deadline.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, October 17, 42.5% of citizens headed to the polls in Kosovo, to vote for the new mayors that will be heading one of the country\u2019s 38 communes for the upcoming 4 years.<\/p>\n

Political subjects have been able to claim victory in 17 of the country\u2019s municipalities, whereas the remaining 21 will be heading to runoffs in the second round of voting for Kosovo\u2019s 2021 Local Elections race.<\/p>\n

According to the preliminary results, which include a tally of 99.8% of votes, the ruling party, the Self-Determination Movement (LVV) hasn\u2019t been able to claim victory in any of the country\u2019s communes, but it will, however, head to runoffs in 12 municipalities.<\/p>\n

The second voting round is set to take place on November 14.<\/p>\n
