Albanian public schools don\u2019t have dedicated taps, where children can be provided their drinking water at no cost.<\/p>\n

A joint order released by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, states that students should have access to fresh drinking water at all times and free of cost.<\/p>\n

However, the only water taps present in our schools are found in toilet rooms. In certain cases, according to students, the water isn\u2019t fit for consumption whereas, in others, it is lacking altogether.<\/p>\n

\u201cYes, there is water but it\u2019s not drinkable,\u201d \u2013 said a student.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey give us drinking water, but sometimes the water in our toilets comes out murky,\u201d \u2013 said another.<\/p>\n

The situation presents itself even more problematic in schools in villages because from time to time, water in their toilets is missing completely.<\/p>\n

Children say that they take their drinking water with them from home and that they don\u2019t even dare enter their toilets because of utter uncleanliness.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s clear that this government ruling isn\u2019t being applied at all in practice. In fact, some of the school directors aren\u2019t even aware that this regulation exists and has been mandated by the government.<\/p>\n
