The former health minister also said that in order to change adoption regulations, we don\u2019t need to meddle with the Family Code.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey say that a heterosexual couple living together for more than 3 years can adopt. This means that you can create a family even outside of marriage. In our understanding, family isn\u2019t simply cohabitation. By doing this, we\u2019re messing with our family model and painting another image that is different from what we have in our Constitution,\u201d \u2013 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Shehu also declared that at this time, we shouldn\u2019t be taking away limitations for adoption but adding them even further, otherwise, we\u2019re exposing children to more risks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re saying that a 21-year-old can adopt a 3-year-old and to me, this exposes the child to danger.
