The healthcare system is where Albanians are asked for the majority of bribes and under-the-table compensations. Around 2 in 3 families (63%) agreed to have given bribes at least once in the last 12 months, to an employee in the health sector.<\/p>\n

Second in line after healthcare is the local government \u2013 where every 1 in 3 families have paid bribes, at least on one occasion in the last 12 months.<\/p>\n

Bribery is a relatively common phenomenon in the justice system also. In the last 12 months, around 18% of Albanian families have paid off a cop or a municipal police officer, and 16% say they\u2019ve had to bribe judges and prosecutors.<\/p>\n

Another striking aspect of Barometer\u2019s latest poll, is the fact that a relatively high percentage of Albanian citizens agree to have paid off transport directories, where the services provided include vehicle registration, technical check-ups, license and registration permits, etc., – 10% of families agree that they\u2019ve at least once in the last 12 months, had to bribe an employee in the transport sector.<\/p>\n

Other institutions, where citizens say they\u2019ve been asked for bribes in a similar manner are property registration offices, the education system, and public corporations like OSHEE and UKT.<\/p>\n

Data were retrieved through a poll by Euronews Albania, surveying agency MRB, and Data Centrum, conducted on a national scale from October 20 \u2013 29 2021.<\/p>\n
