They weren\u2019t even involved in politics. Their only fault was being acquainted with the sinister character of \u2013 Enver Hoxha.<\/p>\n

This is the story of three friends, three victims that were assassinated execution-style by dictator Enver Hoxha, in October 1944 \u2013 Akil Sakiqi, Nazmi Uruci and Fahri Dabulla, who according to the family members of one of the victims, had met the dictator during their time as students at the Lyceum of Korca.<\/p>\n

The three friends were officers. Akil Sakiqi\u2019s nephew, Astric Daci told Euronews Albania that during that October night, the hangmen were to have dinner with the victims, before executing the order from above.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe murderers sat at their dinner table. They called them up to ask a simple question and left, never to be seen again,\u201d \u2013 said Daci.<\/p>\n

At the time, Daci was still very young but nevertheless remembers that the hope to find the remains of their close relatives, as well as the assassins, was still alive back then, even though it is now lost, despite the fact that we live in a democracy.<\/p>\n

Nebil Cika was another victim of November 1944. His nephew has inherited the same name and tells us about what happened that night for him and his family.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wasn\u2019t aware that they would actually execute him, despite his anti-fascist views,\u201d \u2013 said Cika.<\/p>\n

But what was the fault of the others? <\/strong><\/h5>\n

\u201c10 of them, who were on the list that would go on to be executed, had written a book about Kosovo and at the time, communist Albania was led by Yugoslavia,\u201d \u2013 he said.<\/p>\n

The Albanian Academy of Science has undertaken a project of rewriting our history \u2013 where the different nuances that still remain from our past as a communist dictatorship will be more accentuated and realistically portrayed. However, even in this case, historians haven\u2019t called for witnesses or victims\u2019 family members to join them in their research.<\/p>\n

Our communist past still hasn\u2019t come to light fully and hides in the middle of dozens of unopen secret casefiles.<\/p>\n

This commemoration for the victims of November 1944, aims to not let the memory of the brutality and mechanisms used at the time be forgotten, especially when faced with the reality that to this day, we still can\u2019t point our finger towards a single conviction or prosecution for the horrid crimes committed during the communist regime.<\/p>\n
