\u201cThe Grave is Better Than Not Knowing\u201d is the title of the exhibit that opened on Thursday in Prishtina to cherish the memory of 1,600 missing persons from the war, as the latest work of Kosovan visual artist Driton Selmani, and curated by Blerta Ho\u00e7ia.<\/p>\n
The walls of a long and narrow corridor serve as the backdrop for the names, last names, and places where 1.600 Kosovar citizens disappeared during the Kosovo War.<\/p>\n
The large stones placed across the gallery symbolize the tombs of those citizens whose bodies have not been found yet. Another eye-catching detail is the digital clocks showing the time when 1,600 persons vanished and their fate remains unknown to this day, nearly two decades after.<\/p>\n
In an interview for Euronews Albania, Selmani explained how the idea came about.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe exhibit has many layers of the complexity of human behavior. It is a veil on the wound that is burning many hearts and souls\u201d, Selmani said.<\/p>\n
The title came from a fragment from the artists\u2019 conversation with Kumrije Jahmurataj, one of the many mothers in Kosovo who longs to learn what happened with her loved ones.<\/p>\n
