In a statement for the press after their meeting with the prime minister, representatives from the farmers’ protest<\/a><\/strong> said that even though the government doesn\u2019t get their situation, they had agreed to organize talks with experts so that their needs and demands can be heard.<\/p>\n

According to them, the government doesn\u2019t understand the reality of the farmer\u2019s condition and the difficulties they\u2019ve faced with because of a lack of market orientation from the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n

A representative from the farmers protest, \u2018blocked PM Rama\u2019s way\u2019, who invited them in a meeting.<\/p>\n

In today\u2019s plenum, the new fiscal package and 2022 state budget are expected to be put up for discussion.<\/p>\n

For days now, farmers from different cities have been staging protests and calling out against the changes proposed to be made to the fiscal package on agriculture for the upcoming year.<\/p>\n

What are the farmers demanding?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

1 \u2013 Direct subsidies for farmers, no less than 10 LEK per kilogram, clearly visible in all tax receipts.<\/p>\n

2 \u2013 Exporters ask for 30 LEK per kilogram, which should be provided directly from the Customs Directory without additional bureaucratic procedures.<\/p>\n

3 \u2013 Equalization of VAT tax when selling and VAT tax when purchasing.<\/p>\n

4 \u2013 Nullify the new measure introduced in the 2022 fiscal package planning to add 10% of VAT tax to agricultural inputs.<\/p>\n

5 \u2013 Government should take necessary measures in order to check for the quality of agricultural products; set up accredited labs that are accessible by all.<\/p>\n

6 \u2013 Government should regulate commercial relationships within the agricultural sector by law, between farmers and bad traders that don\u2019t pay their bills on time.<\/p>\n
