Historian Neritan Ceka told Euronews Albania on Monday that the selection of the history books being used in classes is a process closely interconnected to politics.<\/p>\n
The historian noted that that there is a \u201cmonopoly of the school curriculum\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe monopolization of textbooks in our education system is wrong. There was a time when teachers could choose among various texts. Now, it is known which publishing house will get the history textbook. It is a business tied to politics, therefore the publishing house is in a safe zone. There will be no one to control it\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n
Ceka emphasized that history \u201ccan only be written, but not rewritten\u201d, as it is a scientific research based on a series of research.<\/p>\n
“It is about some contested spots which have become a part of not only historical studies, but also a wider debate, especially in the social realm, where politically affiliated groups tend to get involved. It is not about the day, who liberated (Albania), what were the consequences of that, are not relevant to what the war was in itself”, he said, while commenting on the controversy of whether Albania was liberated on November 29.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
