\u201cLet\u2019s make Albania like the rest of Europe. Let\u2019s put it back on track, on the true tracks of democracy and freedom, and let\u2019s guarantee a European future for our country\u201d.<\/p>\n

This is what president Ilir Meta declared after paying homage at the memorial of Azem Hajdari, located at the \u2018Student City\u2019 on December 8 \u2013 the National Youth Day.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am here to honor the student movement, especially the hero of democracy, Azem Hajdari, who played a key, volcanic role during those critical moments for Albania and all the students that gave their lives in the name of freedom,\u201d \u2013 said the head of state.<\/p>\n

The president was also asked about the two different camps that have been created within DP. \u201cI am not here to comment on these types of things,\u201d \u2013 said Meta.<\/p>\n

Today is Albania\u2019s National Youth Day. This date was proclaimed a national festivity, in honor of all the students and young generations of December 1990, who were part of bringing democracy to Albania.<\/p>\n

On December 8, 1990, a group of students and professors of the University of Tirana, became the initiators and protagonists of the great historical turn, through peaceful protests that brought about the fall of the communist regime and the birth of democracy and pluralism in our country.<\/p>\n
