{"id":28212,"date":"2021-12-24T18:15:29","date_gmt":"2021-12-24T17:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=28212"},"modified":"2021-12-24T19:16:39","modified_gmt":"2021-12-24T18:16:39","slug":"patrons-list-scandal-high-court-rules-in-favor-of-journalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/patrons-list-scandal-high-court-rules-in-favor-of-journalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Patrons\u2019 list scandal, High Court rules in favor of journalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The High Court has overturned SPAK\u2019s request to confiscate the serves of the portal \u2018Lapsi.al\u2019, which is operated by Andi Bushati and Armand Shkullaku.<\/p>\n<p>SPAK\u2019s request is linked to the \u2018Patrons list\u2019 scandal, which included the leak of a database that contained the personal information of 920 thousand voters, like their names, workplace and voting preference.<\/p>\n<p>The list was allegedly compiled by Socialist Party members dubbed patrons, who were assigned to each citizen and were tasked with noting down their personal information.<\/p>\n<p>The High Court has also emphasized that in order to have these objects confiscated, \u201cthere need to be sufficient grounds, especially since in this specific case, they were necessary in order to demonstrate the evidence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The verdict states that \u2018the court needs to be careful so as to not violate the relationship between journalists and their information source, by avoiding the necessity to reveal the source when the authenticity of the data can be verified through other means\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Lapsi.al published the list of voters for the District of Tirana, showing Socialist Party patrons, who had made notes about the voters\u2019 political leaning and party preferences.<\/p>\n<p>SP admitted to having such a list at its disposal, but they emphasized that the database that was made public by the above-mentioned portal, had been tampered with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>YOU MIGHT ALSO LIKE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The High Court has overturned SPAK\u2019s request to confiscate the serves of the portal \u2018Lapsi.al\u2019, which is operated by Andi Bushati and Armand Shkullaku.
