{"id":28507,"date":"2022-01-02T14:35:43","date_gmt":"2022-01-02T13:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=28507"},"modified":"2022-01-02T14:57:23","modified_gmt":"2022-01-02T13:57:23","slug":"un-kosovo-cannot-declare-unmik-staff-persona-non-grata","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/un-kosovo-cannot-declare-unmik-staff-persona-non-grata\/","title":{"rendered":"UN: Kosovo cannot declare UNMIK staff \u2018persona non grata\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Mission to Kosovo, known as UNMIK, declared that Kosovo authorities did not inform them before declaring a Russian member of the mission persona non grata.<\/p>\n<p>Stephane Dujarric, the spokesperson of the UN\u2019s General Secretary asserted that UNMIK Regulations exclude the doctrine from being applied against the mission\u2019s personnel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been made aware of the Kosovo authorities\u2019 declaration as \u201cpersona non grata\u201d of a staff member of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, UNMIK. No official communication has been received by the Mission from the Kosovo authorities with respect to this announcement. The doctrine of \u201cpersona non grata\u201d is not applicable to United Nations personnel and is not contemplated under UNMIK regulation 2000\/47 (on the status, privileges, and immunities of KFOR and UNMIK and their personnel in Kosovo)\u201d, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/node\/261356\">statement<\/a> released from spokesperson read.<\/p>\n<p>On December 31, Kosovo\u2019s foreign minister designated as non grata a Russian official, part of the UN\u2019s Mission staff, for his alleged \u201charmful activities which undermined national security\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The UN said that any concern over its personnel needs to be brought up with the mission leadership in order to \u201caddress the matter in line with the status, privileges and immunities of UNMIK and its personnel.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations Mission to Kosovo, known as UNMIK, declared that Kosovo authorities did not inform them before declaring a Russian member of the mission persona non grata.
