PM Edi Rama called yesterday\u2019s protest called by Berisha to take back the Democratic Party headquarters, a \u2018medieval showdown\u2019 which could have \u2018degenerated into bloodshed\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt could have degenerated into something inconsolable for DP, for Democrats as well as society as a whole. Both of them [Basha and Berisha], both cadavers of our political system, have taken DP hostage through their quarreling and unfortunately they were both irresponsibly willing to play the game until the end, be it either the game of defense or the game of taking back the castle through the bloodshed of Democrats,\u201d \u2013 said Rama.<\/p>\n

PM Rama made these comments during a preannounced live conference directed at Democrats from his social media account.<\/p>\n

Rama considered yesterday\u2019s events extreme and said that they do a lot of damage to all democratic institutions in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cA development of this nature definitely weakens our political adversaries; in fact, it deals a major blow to the entire country. It hurts our society, it hurts the entire political culture,\u201d \u2013 added Rama.<\/p>\n

In addition, he said that yesterday\u2019s developments don\u2019t only hurt DP, but they also \u2018damage their entire institutional entity of Albania\u2019.<\/p>\n

During yesterday\u2019s protest, which turned into a riot, supporters for former PM Sali Berisha took the matter of taking back the building of DP\u2019s headquarters, into their own hands, by using heavy objects and force, to try and break through the armored doors that were put in place following orders of the current chair, Lulzim Basha.<\/p>\n

These attempts were nonetheless unsuccessful as unidentified individuals from inside the Democratic Party used teargas, threw glass and other heavy objects towards the demonstrators, before calling on the police to intervene and ultimately disperse the protest.<\/p>\n

Following these events, the police made a total of 59 arrests, 8 of whom were minors, whereas 7 citizens were taken to hospital, 3 of whom were women and one, an officer of the police.<\/p>\n
