NATO only entered in order to put half on crimes committed against Kosovo. At the time, Yugoslavia had just disintegrated,\u201d said Stoltenberg, when asked by journalists in Brussels whether or not NATO\u2019s intervention back in 1999, without a formal resolution by the United Nations Security Council, is responsible for Yugoslavia\u2019s breakup.<\/p>\n<p>The airstrikes led by NATO began on March 24, 1999, and lasted for 78 days.
