The efforts and sacrifice dedicated to graduating from university don\u2019t necessarily translate into getting employed in Albania.<\/p>\n
This becomes even more evident when looking at the stats, which shows 28% of Albanian youth, who have a higher education background, are currently jobless.<\/p>\n
Anxhela Kurti has a degree in Literature. She hasn\u2019t been able to find a job in her field of study, due to lack of experience which has ultimately forced her to work in another field.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt school, we lack practical courses. I\u2019ve applied [to jobs] and their answer has been \u2018you don\u2019t have experience\u2019, something I can\u2019t possibly acquire as a student because it is something that is lacking. This isn\u2019t about the salary at the end of the month, but about me needing to get the necessary experience in my profession,\u201d \u2013 said Anxhela Kuri, literature graduate.<\/p>\n
In a study of the International Labor Organization, it states that 70% of the unemployed in Albania have a university degree, whilst unemployment amongst those who haven\u2019t been to university is surprisingly, zero.<\/p>\n
In our country, unemployment continues to be at a high level amongst the younger generation, reaching almost 30%.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is currently no thorough study that shows what positions are most successful or sought after in our country, or which companies offer the most jobs and want to hire the most staff\u2026Schools shouldn\u2019t be seen as institutions that generate profit, but they should look into the latest trends and study the market, or look at the demand for seasonal or long-term positions,\u201d \u2013 said Eranda Ymerali, an education expert.<\/p>\n
In Albania, for the academic year 2020-2021, there are 44 students for every 1.000 inhabitants.<\/p>\n
The most popular degrees were business, administration and law (31.173 students), followed by healthcare (21.195) whereas engineering, construction and production came in third with 20.537 students.<\/p>\n
From 2020-2021, there was a total of 32.889 young graduates and 17.585 were those who finished their Bachelor’s studies.<\/p>\n
The National Employment Agency currently counts a total of 2.195 job offers, posted on their official webpage. Jurist, bankers, IT specialists, doctors, and several other professions pose a high demand.<\/p>\n
According to official stats, there are currently around 30 000 university graduates who can\u2019t find a job.<\/p>\n
