A new exhibition showing the harrowing conditions of Albanians living in Nazi internment camps opened at the National Historic Museum in Tirana<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The exhibit is putting on display a collection of videos and various objects narrating what was life like inside Nazi camps.<\/p>\n

Over 500 Albanians were captured by Nazi forces starting from 1943, as Italy surrendered to the Allies.<\/p>\n

The ill-fated journey began from Albania, and then temporarily settled at a camp in Prishtina and in Serbia\u2019s Banjica, prior to arriving at one of the most infamous internment camps in the world, Mauthausen in Austria.<\/p>\n

But one of the greatest injustices was the separation and denial from families, although it was the only way out to escape from being tortured and interned in Albania.<\/p>\n

The exhibition comes ahead of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day on January 27.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlbanians in Mauthausen\u201d is a living testimony of the dark days that should not be forgotten, in order to avoid the dangers of history repeating itself.<\/p>\n
