At \u20ac1.59 euros per liter, oil prices in Albania have gone up again and drivers now have to pay the same as the Swiss, to fill up their tank.<\/p>\n

These were the reports from Switzerland at the beginning of February. The Swiss are some of the most well-paid workers in all of Europe, getting as much as 16 times more for the same job in Albania.<\/p>\n

Citizens have been expressing their concerns for quite some time. To them, these new prices are simply unaffordable.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s too expensive, we can\u2019t possibly afford this and we can\u2019t go anywhere without a car either. Our salaries alone can\u2019t pay for our fuel, let alone our children\u2019s needs. Paying 1.64 euros a liter is too much,\u201d \u2013 said a citizen.<\/p>\n

There are currently well over 700.000 cars in our country, of which 74% use oil.<\/p>\n

Minister of finance, Delina Ibrahimi has argued that this price hike is only a result of oil prices going up in foreign markets due to the global crisis.<\/p>\n

At the end of today\u2019s government meeting, she emphasized that the government can\u2019t intervene with prices, but that it can however monitor the situation in order to foresee possible changes that could be made, giving no further details on what these details could actually be.<\/p>\n

Lastly, the minister of finance said that oil prices are expected to go down by the second half of the year.<\/p>\n
