Former minister of interior Saimir Tahiri, has just reacted to the verdict of the Special Appeals Court, which sentenced him to 3.4 years in prison, calling it a \u2018great injustice\u2019.<\/p>\n

Tahiri also stated that he never broke the law while in office as minister of internal affairs from 2013-2017.<\/p>\n

\u2018I love you all! It sucks that it had to be like this! On the moral plane, I\u2019m calm. I have never broken the law and I loved each and every day of my work as a minister. I am happy that I accomplished my duties to the best of my abilities. This is nothing but an injustice,\u201d \u2013 said Tahiri, in a Facebook post.<\/p>\n

The Special Appeals Court against Corruption and Organized Crime found Tahiri guilty on several counts of abuse of power, thus upholding the previous verdict that had sentenced Tahiri to 5 years in prison.<\/p>\n

The First Instance Court had converted Tahiri\u2019s sentence to 3 years and 4 months\u2019 probation services.<\/p>\n

Later, the Special Appeals Court reversed this verdict and returned the case for retrial at a lower court.<\/p>\n

Based on procedures, Tahiri will have to start serving his time immediately.<\/p>\n

The court\u2019s decision is final but Tahiri does have the right to send the case for recourse at Tirana\u2019s High Court, within 45 days.<\/p>\n
