A heated debate arose during mayor Erion Veliaj\u2019s testimony before the Inquiry Commission on the incinerator scandal.<\/p>\n

The Commission\u2019s chair Jorida Tabaku clashed with Veliaj because the latter was accused of going off on a tangent and refusing to respond to the questions being asked on what went on behind the scenes during the construction of the incinerators.<\/p>\n

More specifically, Tabaku accused Veliaj of refusing to respond to her question about the decision made by the City\u2019s Municipal Council to build the incinerator of Tirana.<\/p>\n

Veliaj on the other hand, retaliated by saying that Tabaku has been convicted of defamation against him and that she was not letting him speak.<\/p>\n

Tabaku<\/strong>:\u00a0You are intentionally mixing up the facts.<\/p>\n

Valiaj: You can ask the questions, but you can\u2019t answer them for me. What you\u2019re doing is dishonest and the way you\u2019re leading this commission is dishonest. If you want to talk about our clashes, I\u2019ve already beaten you in court and you\u2019ve been convicted of defamation against me.<\/p>\n

Tabaku<\/strong>: Can you please read us the decision of the Municipal Council.<\/p>\n

Veliaj: Unlike you, I\u2019ve come prepared. Let me finish. I\u2019ve only spoken in the name of the municipality; this is a decision of the Municipal Council.<\/p>\n

Tabaku<\/strong>:\u00a0Why do you fear a decision made by the municipal council then?<\/p>\n

Tabaku<\/strong>:\u00a0If you deviate from the real subject of the question, I won\u2019t let you answer.<\/p>\n

Veliaj:\u00a0If you\u2019ve called me here, you\u2019ll have to listen to me. We\u2019ve exposed a massive lie.<\/p>\n

Tabaku<\/strong>: Please answer about Tirana\u2019s Municipality. Read us the decision of the Municipal Council. Today, you are responsible for the Municipality of Tirana.<\/p>\n

Veliaj: \u00a0Relax, take a break. I can stay here for another 3 days. Drink some water, take a deep breath.<\/p>\n

Today, the following state officials are expected to testify before the Inquiry Commission: Secretary-General of the PM\u2019s Office Engjell Agaci, Socialist MP Alqi Ballko, and former energy minister, Damian Gjiknuri.<\/p>\n
