Measures taken by the government of Kosovo to face the current rise in prices were more active and wide-ranging than those taken by Albania.<\/p>\n
This is what economic expert Selami Xhepa told Euronews Albania during a live interview.<\/p>\n
\u201cKosovo\u2019s package was very active and its support mechanisms had a wide-ranging effect because they included those employed in the private sector as well as the public one, all senior citizens and students,\u201d \u2013 he said.<\/p>\n
The Albanian government has a 120-million-euro rise in revenue in its state budget due to the VAT tax, which exceeded expectations.<\/p>\n
Xhepa argued that the government should use this extra money to give citizens a hand.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt least parts of these new earnings could be allocated to those in need. Many countries have completely suspended their VAT tax, but in our case, we are continuing to collect it so the least we can do is to hand it back to citizens,\u201d \u2013 said Xhepa.<\/p>\n
Xhepa also said that even when the war ends, prices will continue to rise in Albania.<\/p>\n
Whereas Safet Gerxhaliu, who is an expert in economic issues in Kosovo said that measures taken by the Kurti administration were delayed but nonetheless welcomed by citizens.<\/p>\n
\u201cInflation in Kosovo went up by 10% in March 2022, so every possible measure that could help our citizens should be welcomed even if it\u2019s delayed but this is a reality we are faced with in Kosovo and an overwhelming majority of citizens are happy with this allocation, even though we are still not at that point in Kosovo when we can comment about the economic decision,\u201d \u2013 said Gerxhalliu.<\/p>\n
In any case, Gerxhalliu said that Kosovo should aim for a more active approach and more economic and long-term measures.<\/p>\n
