Albanian President Ilir Meta is holding a press conference at the premises of the Presidential Office over the European Parliament\u2019s report on Albania, adopted a few days ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe resolution has identified all the problems that have made the country\u2019s European integration and opening accession negotiations impossible\u201d, Meta said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn principle, the vote on this resolution shows the European Parliament\u2019s approach to endorse developmental policies in light of the war in Ukraine, nevertheless it has identified all of Albania\u2019s critical problems\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n
Meta said that \u201cdespite the scandalous stagnation\u201d, he supports opening accession talks with the EU because \u201cthe people deserve it\u201d.<\/p>\n
Meta highlighted problems with democracy, media and speech freedoms, issues with political pluralism and paralysis of the rule of law, implementation of the vetting and justice reform, and extraordinary corruption.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that the resolution mentions Albania\u2019s drop by 26 spots in 5 years in the corruption index is a significant indication\u201d, said Meta.<\/p>\n
