{"id":36864,"date":"2022-05-21T17:18:41","date_gmt":"2022-05-21T15:18:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=36864"},"modified":"2022-05-21T17:18:41","modified_gmt":"2022-05-21T15:18:41","slug":"durres-kavaja-public-beaches-fail-to-meet-the-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/durres-kavaja-public-beaches-fail-to-meet-the-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Durres, Kavaja public beaches fail to meet the standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not too far from the start of the tourist season, the coastline along Durres and Kavaja has very few public beaches to offer, as opposed to private ones.<\/p>\n<p>And even the remaining public beaches fail to meet the most basic standards.<\/p>\n<p>Sparing money to go on a public beach in Kavaja, might pose a risk of swimming near sewages, as in many cases wastewater is thrown directly into the Adriatic.<\/p>\n<p>Repeated promises and investments don\u2019t seem to have solved the problem in the region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are no controls, and the government doesn\u2019t see what happens here. Some 30 Polish tourists came yesterday and were forced to gather here\u201d, said a local while complaining about the small confined area caused by the construction of two major resorts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the only public beach left\u201d, said another tourist.<\/p>\n<p>The same problems are raised by the citizens of Durres.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its four-kilometer coastline, Albania\u2019s most popular beach has not been cleaned up yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shore is filled with seaweed because the city hall cleans it up very rarely. Also, the people leave their garbage on the beach\u201d, said a tourist.<\/p>\n<p>The major problem for citizens remains the lack of public spaces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll we have is a 100 square meters public beach. We have no space\u201d, said a citizen.<\/p>\n<p>Euronews Albania sent an inquiry to the City Hall to understand how public spaces are distributed, but our request was refused by the institution.<\/p>\n<p>The coastline of Kavaja is 22 kilometers, with 198 plots of private beaches and only 40 public beaches.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not too far from the start of the tourist season, the coastline along Durres and Kavaja has very few public beaches to offer, as opposed to private ones.
