This is the 3rd<\/sup> day since a large fire broke in the southern Island of Sazan marking the first major wildfire for the 2022 summer season.<\/p>\n

The flames remain active over a considerable surface area in the island\u2019s eastern parts, which face the coastal city of Vlora.<\/p>\n

Dozens of century-old pine trees have been burned to the ground and dozens of others continue to burn from Saturday through Monday.<\/p>\n

Despite last night\u2019s efforts led by our Armed Forces, firefighters and ADZM teams, the fires continue to ravage forests and bushland.<\/p>\n

Munitions present for decades in this island are also at risk, as recent reports from this morning confirmed that a series of ammunitions have exploded as a result of catching fire.<\/p>\n

The area that is been scorched by the fire used to be an important military base during the communist regime and the press isn\u2019t allowed to film in and around it. However, there are definite doubts that more ammo that could be a major fire hazard, is still present in the island.<\/p>\n

Authorities have confirmed that until the fire can be contained and the debris from the burned ammunition is cleaned, tourists and visitors won\u2019t be allowed to visit the Island of Sazan.<\/p>\n

An official order has also been released prohibiting all journalists and press from taking pictures or filming the area caught in the flames.<\/p>\n
