{"id":39042,"date":"2022-06-27T14:27:35","date_gmt":"2022-06-27T12:27:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=39042"},"modified":"2022-06-27T14:30:10","modified_gmt":"2022-06-27T12:30:10","slug":"peleshi-we-cant-buy-e50m-aircraft-to-put-out-fires","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/peleshi-we-cant-buy-e50m-aircraft-to-put-out-fires\/","title":{"rendered":"Peleshi: We can\u2019t buy \u20ac50M aircraft to put out fires"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Defense Minister Niko Peleshi reported on Monday in front of the parliamentary committee on security regarding the state of the fires in the country.<\/p>\n<p>In a discussion over the recent fires that engulfed Sazan Island, Democrat MP Ferdinant Xhaferraj called on the minister to reveal the country\u2019s capacities.<\/p>\n<p>Minister Peleshi said Albania doesn\u2019t have the capacity to buy special aircraft to put out the fires as not only they are costly, but also have high maintenance costs.<\/p>\n<p>But the good news, according to the minister, Albania is closely cooperating with many countries in case of emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a small country. It\u2019s not worth investing in an aircraft that costs \u20ac50 million\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we do have that money, we\u2019re not in a situation where we can spend \u20ac50 million and only use it for a month only, and then add also maintenance costs which are very high\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe maintain our air fleet through external contractors, costs are even higher than countries like Italy, as we have to transport the aircraft abroad when it needs to be fixed.
