{"id":39077,"date":"2022-06-28T13:13:59","date_gmt":"2022-06-28T11:13:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=39077"},"modified":"2022-06-28T13:13:59","modified_gmt":"2022-06-28T11:13:59","slug":"21-years-from-extradition-of-slobodan-milosevic-at-the-hague","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/21-years-from-extradition-of-slobodan-milosevic-at-the-hague\/","title":{"rendered":"21 years from extradition of Slobodan Milosevic at The Hague"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic, known also as the \u2018the Butcher of the Balkans\u2019 was extradited at The Hague on this day in 2001 after being indicted in 1999 for war crimes committed in Kosovo.<\/p>\n<p>Later on, other counts of war crimes were added to his indictment for offenses that took place in Croatia and genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n<p>He was extradited following an order from the Serbian government. Milosevic was <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icty.org\/en\/content\/arrest-and-transfer\">arrested<\/a> <\/strong>in Belgrade on 1 April 2001 as the person responsible for ordering the deaths of tens of thousands of people.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_39078\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39078\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39078\" src=\"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4.jpg 800w, https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/slobu_vode_u_hag-4-696x392.jpg 696w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-39078\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Slobodan Milosevic being arrested in Belgrade \/ credit SLOBODAN MILO\u0160EVI\u0106<br \/>INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>His <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.icty.org\/en\/content\/slobodan-milo%C5%A1evi%C4%87-trial-prosecutions-case\">trial<\/a> <\/strong>began on 12 February 2002 with testimonies taking the stand until 25 February 2004.
