The ‘Love Service’ canteen located in Tirana has been providing food for the homeless and people with economic difficulties in the capital city for years. <\/span><\/p>\n

During the Christmas and New Year holidays, Euronews Albania joined the initiative of Foodbank and Father Nikolla Kodheli to extend a helping hand to people who are unable to set up their festive table due to economic difficulties. <\/span><\/p>\n

About 300 people visit the canteen every day to eat two meals. <\/span>It opens its doors from 08:00 am until 1<\/span>:00 pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

For 9 years Father Nikola has been dedicated to serving a hot meal to people living in this area and somehow trying to ease their suffering even a little. <\/span><\/p>\n

“There are people who come here to eat a meal, people who are currently homeless, or even those who have shelter but cannot make ends meet in terms of putting food on the table, there are disabled or sick people, there are students, widows, women who have been in abusive relationships or who have divorced their husbands, they all come and eat here today”, said Father Nikolla Kodheli, Priest of the Orthodox Church.<\/span><\/p>\n

Foodbank’s logistics manager, Xhelil Meta, has been bringing fruits and vegetables to the canteen donated by vendors for the past 6 years. <\/span><\/p>\n

“We always get free food, food that is close to its expiration date, food that might not have been packaged well, that’s what Foodbank does. It is a bit difficult, but recently there has been a larger amount of food that has been collected and people have donated more food,” he emphasized. <\/span><\/p>\n

Zhani, Emanuela, Sotiri, Joani, and Areti are the volunteers who have joined this canteen to give their contribution by cooking and serving. After they finish their meals, Father Nikola with great love and dedication tries to divide equally between them the food products that Euronews Albania donated. <\/span><\/p>\n

It’s easy to notice the smiles amongst those receiving their packages, who are happy and hopeful that another hopefully better year awaits them.<\/span><\/p>\n

Giving does not impoverish you, but rather enriches your spirit. While thanking Euronews Albania for joining this initiative, Father Nikola, calls on the citizens to become more aware and be closer to people who are less fortunate. <\/span><\/p>\n

“An offering of yours today will increase the joy of these people because by working together we can give happiness to people in need. By coming together, we can also make other people happy. We should have hope, and within hope, we could find joy. Let’s wish for more hope and new initiatives for 2023”, he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Euronews Albania joins this message and wishes everyone the best new year, full of health and with<\/span>\u00a0as little scarcity and poverty as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
