The Constitutional Court has rejected a request of some of the MPs of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, who had requested the establishment of an Investigative Commission for the arbitration case of Italian businessman Francesco Becchetti.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the court’s reasoning for the given decision, it states that the panel did not reach a conclusion that in this particular case, the constitutional standards for the establishment of the investigative commission are met. <\/span><\/p>\n

This decision is final, enters into force on the day of publication in the Official Gazette and will be announced within the legal deadlines provided by law no. 8577. <\/span><\/p>\n

Albania has requested the exclusion of a Swiss judge from the hearing at the World Bank Arbitration in Washington of the request for review of the 110 million euro fine imposed in the ‘Beccheti’ case.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Albanian side has requested the exclusion of judge Charles Ponset, who was selected after two other names of the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes were not selected on the grounds that they could not judge the request.<\/span><\/p>\n

Albania has submitted the request for cancellation of the 110 million euro fine by presenting a file with new evidence to the international arbitration in Washington.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among the evidence included in the file is the fact that Francesco Beketi was sentenced to 17 years in prison by Albanian justice for the charge of creating a VAT fraud scheme and money laundering. In parallel with the appeal of the fine, the Albanian government has foreseen in the budget the fund of 110 million euros in case of a final decision, which leaves it in force by the international arbitration court.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
