The former Minister of Defense Fatmir Mediu in a statement to the press after leaving SPAK where he was asked about the Gerdec incident, said that he does not accept the accusations raised against him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mediu stated that he was presented with the 2009 charge, not the acts. He also said that he asked to be investigated in a fair manner while describing the accusation of abuse of power as baseless and politically motivated.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, Mediu emphasized that a minister is in a position of civilian authority and that at the time, the dismantling of weapons was a matter of national security.<\/span><\/p>\n

“The same charge was presented to me. That of 2009, a politically motivated accusation without any additional evidence to back it up, that of abuse of power. I asked to be summoned about this from the very beginning. I have not been asked about the signed act, it has been 15 years since then. My position is that I am innocent. I do not accept the charge. Everything we did was according to our agreements with the Pentagon regarding the dismantling practices that also involved a thorough analysis from international experts,” said Mediu.<\/span><\/p>\n
