The head of DP’s parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj, reacted after his decision to expel 4 MPs from the DP group. <\/span><\/p>\n

In a statement to journalists from Saranda, he said that he is the legitimate chair of the DP after Lulzim Basha’s resignation, emphasizing that he is the representative of the Democrats, who have decided to break away from the past 30-something-year period of Albanian politics. <\/span><\/p>\n

“I take the opportunity to be among the Democrats of Saranda not only to celebrate, but also to discuss the current state and the political situation first of all in Saranda, the challenges that await us, but also about other developments that go all the way up to the center.<\/span><\/p>\n

I don’t want to hide the fact that in the discussion with Democrats today – because it will be an open, honest conversation with them – the recent movements or developments within the DP will also be a part of the discussion. You ask me what this movement means. I can say what my position is. I am the chairman of the parliamentary group of the DP, elected according to all the statutory rules of the DP. I am also the acting chairman of the Democratic Party after the resignation of Lulzim Basha. I am a representative of all those Democrats, who have decided to break away from the past 30-something-year period of Albanian politics. Even in terms of what these 30 years have meant for the DP. I have the responsibility to represent them, to raise my voice for the need and the desire to face the challenges of the future.<\/span><\/p>\n

I understand very well the plight of those who from time to time make these acts of aggression against my colleagues in Parliament. It is a common problem that is shared by both Sali Berisha and Edi Rama. I’m already used to these labels, putting me on Edi Rama’s side just because of my viewpoints. The press has already made public who was actually on Edi Rama’s side. And those who chose to be on his side, have their own reasons and issues,”<\/span>\u00a0Alibeaj said.<\/span><\/p>\n

2 days ago, Enkelejd Alibeaj decided to expel from the DP parliamentary group 4 MPs including Oerd Bylykbashi, Belind Kellici, Agron Shehaj and Tritan Shehu.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the announcement of Enkelejd Alibeaj’s group, it said that the reason for this decision was the fact that these MPs never distanced themselves from the acts of violence committed against the Democratic Party’s headquarters on January 8, 2021, by Berisha and his supporters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
