Journalist Poli Hoxha has shared important details about the arrest of former senior FBI official, Charles McGonigal, due to his cooperation with a Russian oligarch from whom he had also received large sums of money in the form of compensation.<\/p>\n
In an interview for Euronews Albania, he said that he has the complete file of the former official while also revealing the relationship he had with Prime Minister Edi Rama. Hoxha emphasized that the latter had dinner with McGonigal, whom he paid to open an investigation against the former chairman of the DP Lulzim Basha.<\/p>\n
The journalist also claimed that the former FBI official had come to Albania several times and the reason was related to Lulzim Basha, for whom the news spread some time ago that he could not go to the US because he had an open case with the FBI.<\/p>\n
“Rama has been aware of the sensational arrest that has become headline news throughout the US media. The former FBI agent was arrested in a flagrant way. This case includes two main allegations; one is about a Russian oligarch and the other consists of an investigation in Washington that is completely linked to Albania.<\/p>\n
I have the whole file in hand and will publish it soon. I have the entire file of the arrested agent. There are some extraordinary scandals in it. $225 thousand dollars were received on three separate occasions.<\/p>\n
This man, who had lunch with our prime minister and one with the former head of the FBI has come to our country several times. All this was done to encourage an investigation against the Albanian opposition. The FBI official was paid to hit Lulzim Basha, at the time he was chairman of the Democratic Party. This was done by producing a file for one of the companies which Basha had a lobbying contract with. All this was done in order to be used against Basha. We heard that Basha is not going to the USA because of the FBI. All this was a well-paid game” – said Hoxha.<\/p>\n
