In the first interview given in our country since the appointment as ambassador of the European Union, Christiane Hohmann also spoke about the issue of the massive departure of many Albanians from the country. <\/span><\/p>\n

She was asked by moderator Erla Mehilli about this phenomenon as well as the solution formula that the EU could address. The head of the European diplomacy in our country, considering the ongoing departures as a worrying problem, reiterated on “NOW with Erla Mehilli” the invitation for immigrants to return and contribute to their home country. <\/span><\/p>\n

Erla Mehlli:<\/strong> However, emigration remains a big challenge for our country. Although it was Great Britain, a country that has left the Union, that faced more than 13,000 illegal Albanian immigrants, EU member states themselves have expressed concern about the high number of Albanian asylum seekers. There are more asylum requests coming from Albania than from Ukraine, which is a country at war. Do you look at the flight of Albanians with concern, because we said that the European Union helps with money and reform for Albanians to live here, for the country to become better for living here. How do you see this departure? Is it an indication of problems with governance or a normal phenomenon as the government itself calls it? How do you see it, do you see the departure with concern, and what are the reasons in your opinion?<\/span><\/p>\n

Ambassador Hohmann<\/strong>: It is a worrying problem that other countries also have, not only Albania, but brain drain is very difficult, as it has to do with the removal of the population that is needed for the jobs we hope to create here. Therefore, improving the business environment, and increasing investments that create jobs to have a dignified life in the country and not go elsewhere is very important. It is part of the reform process, it is part of the transformative process. The second element is education and exchanges. We do not deny that people go for education and training somewhere, but what we want to see more is that they return to Albania, bring their knowledge, and contribute to building Albania’s future. It takes a lot of effort from politics, the business community, and education, and of course we need to build an economic sector that creates the opportunities that are badly needed.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
