In the first exclusive interview on Euronews Albania, she said that the best experts have come to Tirana to make an assessment and offer advice.<\/p>\n
She also talked about some of the main concerns, focusing on the challenges ahead.<\/p>\n
Erla Mehilli:<\/strong> Madam Ambassador, another concern of the European Union, but also of the United States, is the fiscal amnesty, another initiative that the government is trying to approve. The political majority seems determined to do it. The standard answer they get back is that they are negotiating with our partners and that they are working with EU experts on this. Can you make it clear to us what the Commission’s red lines are on this issue, that is, what are the points you agree with and the points you disagree with, do you have any red lines? What is the main concern?<\/p>\n Ambassador<\/strong>: We have brought several experts who are much more skilled than me. I am not a financial expert, but they have come and given a considerable number of advice to the Albanian government to be involved in drafting a new legislation, a new version of it. This is what we are waiting for, a new version to include the advice given. At this point, I cannot tell you where the red lines are, as I do not know the current state of the draft legislation. We are still waiting for it.<\/p>\n Erla Mehill<\/strong>i: Very briefly, what is the main concern? What is your fear, is it money laundering?<\/p>\n Ambassador<\/strong>: There are many issues as it is an extremely complex and comprehensive piece of legislation. You mentioned one of them, but there is also the issue of extraterritoriality, the issue of applicability, it is a big practical but also a legal challenge, but as I said, we have offered advice and now the issue is how a new draft of legislation will be drawn up.
