{"id":48572,"date":"2023-02-20T19:08:36","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T18:08:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/?p=48572"},"modified":"2023-02-20T18:27:01","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T17:27:01","slug":"32-years-since-the-statue-of-enver-hoxha-was-taken-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/euronews.al\/en\/32-years-since-the-statue-of-enver-hoxha-was-taken-down\/","title":{"rendered":"32 years since the statue of Enver Hoxha was taken down"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">February 20, 1991, would go down in Albania&#8217;s history as the day of the demolition of the monument of the communist dictator Enver Hoxha.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">32 years ago, on February 20, 1991, tens of thousands of people filled the Student City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">Part of the protesters went to the center of the city, where they placed a stake on the monument of the dictator Enver Hoxha and at around 14:00 they took it down. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">The images of those events, in &#8220;Skenderbej&#8221; square, went around the world and once again put Albania in the focus of international developments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"tw-data-text tw-text-large tw-ta\" dir=\"ltr\" data-placeholder=\"Translation\"><span class=\"Y2IQFc\" lang=\"en\">February 20 is designated as the day of national memory for the martyrs and victims of the communist regime. In fact, it also marked the end of the dictatorship in Albania.
