The show “Downtown” by Ilnisa \u200b\u200bAgolli, in Euronews Albania, reflected in this Sunday’s show one of the most important cities in Greece, Thessaloniki, about history, art, culture and economy.<\/p>\n
In addition to the coverage of tourist attractions, the history of the city and interviews of local residents, Ilnisa \u200b\u200bAgolli also stopped for a friendly conversation with the mayor of Thessaloniki, Kostantinos Zervas.<\/p>\n
Agolli asked the mayor of Thessaloniki about his origin and if the news are true, that he has Albanian roots.<\/p>\n
In his answer, Zervas emphasized that in the Balkans everyone has common roots, further admitted that his mother’s grandmother was born in the city of Kor\u00e7a.<\/p>\n

Ilnisa \u200b\u200bAgolli: Have you hired young Albanians in the Municipality?<\/p>\n
The Mayor of Thessaloniki: There are many Albanians who work, about 4,000 employees in the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the second largest municipality in the country. Unfortunately most of them are not new peole, because due to the financial crisis we havn\u2019t had many recruitments in the last 12 years. But I know very well that there are many young people who work with businesses. They deal with the development of our city and have very important projects in our city.<\/p>\n
Ilnisa \u200b\u200bAgolli: Mr. Zerva, I have heard something about your origins. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but they say your origin is from Albania?<\/p>\n
The mayor of Thessaloniki: In Balkan we all have common roots. My mother’s grandmother was born in Kor\u00e7a. It was of Greek origin and was placed in the monastery that is now called Bitola. Shee had met my great-grandfather there. My mother’s father was born there and after a few years, in 1912, he moved to Thessaloniki where my mother was born.<\/p>\n
Ilnisa \u200b\u200bAgolli: What about the elections, have you received any messages because we are very close?<\/p>\n
The mayor of Thessaloniki: This year is the year of elections, it is a year that we will have local elections in our state. We also have municipal elections. Municipal elections will be held in October. I will run again for a second term. I believe that the people of Thessaloniki will show me their confidence in the work that has been done to continue the project to make Thessaloniki even more attractive. Hospitality for its citizens, but also a city worth visiting and investing in the spirit of globalism that exists from all over the world and especially from the Balkans.<\/p>\n
