The agreement between Albania and Greece on the recognition of pensions has progressed and both parties have agreed in principle.<\/p>\n

In April, the heads of social security of both countries concluded technical discussions in Tirana, to pave the way to the recognition of labor years of Albanian immigrants in Greece, as one of the largest communities of the Albanian diaspora.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting in Tirana shows the positive will both sides have to make a common agreement possible. It is desired by a lot of our compatriots, as well as by Greeks who work and live with Albania,\u201d a notice of the Social Insurance Institution said.<\/p>\n

The bill on pensions presented last March in the Greek Parliament foresees the reduction by 30 years of residence, in order to benefit from the national pension. It used to be 40 years.<\/p>\n

Albanian immigrants have regularly contributed in the Greek social security scheme, because insurance payments were necessarily related to obtaining residence permits.<\/p>\n

There are some 700 thousand Albanians, who have worked in Greece since the \u201890s. If the agreement is finalized, years of social security contributions will be recognized for them, thus enabling citizens to benefit from the pensions.<\/p>\n

So far, Albania has negotiated with 14 countries in the field of social security, signing agreements with 13 of them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
