200 Albanian prisoners will be transferred from Great Britain to Albania to serve the rest of their sentences.<\/p>\n
The agreement was reached during the discussions of the two prime ministers Rishi Sunak and Edi Rama during the talks in London, on March of this year.<\/p>\n
At the end of last year, there were 1336 Albanians in prisons in England and Wales.<\/p>\n
The reason for this agreement is related with two factors, the economic one and prison overcrowding.<\/p>\n
17 prisoners who are sentenced to life imprisonment will be the first to be transferred to Albania.<\/p>\n
Koci Selamaj one of the prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of the teacher Sabina Nessa, will be repatriated.<\/p>\n
For a prisoner in a high security prison, the cost in Great Britain for a year is 57,000 pounds, while in Albania it is 10,000 pounds per year. London will continue to pay for serving the sentence for prisoners in Albanian prisons, but at a lower cost.<\/p>\n
According to the agreement, an Albanian prisoner is released a year early and will be given 1,500 pounds if he agrees to be deported and never return to Britain.<\/p>\n
They warn them, if they return to the island without permission, they will immediately return to prison to serve the remaining time of their sentence.<\/p>\n
