In the recent years, tourism industry in Berat has grown significantly. Many new businesses in the hotel-tourism field have opened to respond to the high demand, but the labor force in the city is not enough to meet the needs of these businesses.<\/p>\n
Denisa Qeraj, the manager of one of Berati’s hotels, says that even though this year there has been an increased demand from tourists for accommodation in the hotel she manages, the lack of staff has caused service to tourists to have shortcomings.<\/p>\n
But the paradox lies in the fact that there are over 1,000 registered jobseekers in the employment office in Berat. This is also confirmed by the director of the labor office in this city.<\/p>\n
“It results that 2661 unemployed jobseekers are registered, this is a regional figure, specifically for the city of Berat there are 1063 unemployed jobseekers”, said Migena Toto, Director of the Berat Employment Office.<\/p>\n
Toto also said that the labor office has created employment programs to address registered job seekers.<\/p>\n
“The labor office is implementing various projects, such as employment promotion projects, during 2022 and in the future, they are being implemented, are programs that are applied to unemployed job seekers”, said Migena Toto, Director of the Office of work Berat.<\/p>\n
But for business, cooperation with the labor office has been unsuccessful.<\/p>\n
In fact, more foreigners than Albanians have shown a higher interest in working in Berat.<\/p>\n
“I have received several requests, especially from Dubai or e-mails from Israel, for foreign employees to come to work. We really work with foreign tourists, but the problem is that the Albanian staff is compatible with the foreign part that they have some requirements of them that we have to adapt”, said Denisa Qerja, Hotel Manager.<\/p>\n
But not only tourism, but also the fashion sector, which has experienced rapid growth in recent years in Berat, is suffering from a lack of labor.<\/p>\n
