European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliv\u00e9r V\u00e1rhelyi during his visit to Kosovo this Thursday, said that the clear message coming from the country is its commitment in rapprochement with the European Union.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou have shown your commitment not only through words but through joining us against the Russian aggression in Ukraine,\u201d declared V\u00e1rhelyi, adding that Kosovo must speed up the implementation of reforms in the judiciary system and improve the implementation of legal frameworks.<\/p>\n
In a joint press conference with Kosovo\u2019s President Vjosa Osmani, V\u00e1rhelyi also called on Pristina to benefit from momentum and respect all agreements with Serbia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe think there has been progress in the past year. Now it is necessary that both parties offer and carry out all obligations without delay, because they need to make use of the momentum. We must go forward with the implementation of the Agreement as soon as possible,\u201d said the EU Commissioner, also citing conclusions of the European Council, which encouraged both parties to fully and unconditionally carry out all obligations they committed to.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn our part, we are ready to offer the program for investments, of which everyone can benefit through a successful dialogue,\u201d concluded the commissioner.<\/p>\n
President Osmani on the other hand, ensured that while there is still a lot to be done, Kosovo is committed to undertaking all necessary steps in order to come closer with the EU.<\/p>\n
\u201cKosovo\u2019s application for EU membership is a reaffirmation of the commitment of our daily work. It is a reaffirmation of our Euro-Atlantic orientation,\u201d said Osmani, adding that the country is in coordination with the EU in supporting Ukrainian people and imposing sanctions against Russia.<\/p>\n
V\u00e1rhelyi visit to Kosovo marks the start of a joint program between the EU and Kosovo in strengthening the law and the fight against organized crime and corruption. Through a fund of 6,5 million euros, the European Commission said that the program will be carried out in a three-year period, with the support of France, Italy and Belgium, aiming to contribute in strengthening the capacities of the institutions in Kosovo. President Osmani welcomed the initiative, as the rule of law, justice reform and fight against crime and corruption are some of the main areas to be taken into account by the EU in assessment of the readiness of the Western Balkans for progress towards European integration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
