The British Parliament on Thursday had a debate on the issue of immigration. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stated that immigration to the United Kingdom is very high, while the Labor opposition has accused the government of not having a concrete plan to deal with this phenomenon.<\/p>\n
This time, it seems that Albanian immigrants were out of the debate, since in the first place for 2022 are the immigrants from Ukraine, about 114 thousand, and then those from Hong Kong, about 52 thousand, who have benefited from the visa facilitation program, behind the iron fist exercised by the Chinese government on human rights.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Afghans make up the vast majority of asylum seekers who arrived in small boats in the first three months of the year.<\/p>\n
According to data published by the British Home Office, of the 3,800 people who arrived on the coast of Kent, almost 900 were Afghans.<\/p>\n
The second largest nationality in numbers was that of Indians, about 670, followed by Iranians, Iraqis and Syrians.<\/p>\n
As far as Albanians are concerned, passage through the English Channel has almost stopped. After more than 12 thousand arrivals in 2022, only 28 managed to pass from January to March of this year.<\/p>\n
In total, the number of immigrants who entered the United Kingdom during the past year reached 606 thousand units. This is a record figure for a year, which is, however, lower than expected.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, as for those who have applied for asylum, the number has increased to 172,700 cases.<\/p>\n
