Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergei Lavrov, said that the situation in Kosovo is alarming and that it could provoke another conflict in the center of Europe.<\/p>\n
“A huge explosion is being prepared in the center of Europe – in the place where, in 1999, NATO attacked Yugoslavia, violating every imaginable principle of the Helsinki Final Act and OSCE documents,” said Lavrov during a visit to Kenya, reports the Russian state agency, RIA Novosti.<\/p>\n
He added that the situation requires a “geopolitical solution” that would guarantee the security of European countries.<\/p>\n
According to him, “no bloc, including NATO, has the right to claim dominance in that part of the planet”<\/p>\n
Tensions in the north of Kosovo have increased, as groups of local Serbs are protesting against the new Albanian mayors of the municipalities: Zve\u00e7an, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.<\/p>\n
Last Friday, Kosovo Police forcefully entered these municipalities to install the new mayors.<\/p>\n
The government of Kosovo has defended the actions of the police, while the international community has severely condemned them, warning that they minimize efforts to normalize Kosovo-Serbia relations.<\/p>\n
Russia, which launched the invasion of its neighbor, Ukraine, in February of last year, is an ally of Serbia and constantly supports its actions against Kosovo’s citizenship.<\/p>\n
