Shkodra is known throughout the country as the city that was most attacked by the communist regime. After many years, the former internal branch has turned into one of the most identifying museums of Shkodra, where inside the museum, the prison and investigation rooms have been kept untouched.<\/p>\n
Even for this tourist season, there are many tourists visiting this museum, getting to know closely a not-so-distant past.<\/p>\n
“It is the first time in Albania. Today I came to visit this museum which is fantastic. To think that 40 years ago this place served as a prison is unbelievable. People may have died here and today I am here. I must admit that when I told my friends that I was going to Albania, they told me to be careful, that it is not a safe place, but here I am proving the complete opposite. People here are very kind and the place is fantastic,” said Rick Buytos, a tourist from the Netherlands.<\/p>\n
For the head of this museum, Pjerin Mirdita, the interest of tourists is increasing every year. Especially to foreigners, it seems incredible that in just such a short time this place has turned into a museum.<\/p>\n
“We are actually proud to say about what we offer as we give a living testimony to people, to visitors. They are familiar with these aspects of our history and, in fact, especially the foreign visitors who come from Western Europe or North America, the moment they enter and compare the historical periods, comparing the period they had in their country and the period that was in Albania, they are two things that are in fact opposite to each other.<\/p>\n
I remember the testimony of a Dutch tourist just a few days ago who said “At the time when we were listening to “The Beatles” or had a normal free life in the heart of Europe, only two thousand kilometers away, were happening those things in Albania”- said Pjerin Mirdita, head of the “Museum of Evidence and Memory”.<\/p>\n
The biggest innovation this year was Prime Minister Rama’s historic visit to this museum, becoming the first left-wing prime minister to set foot in this museum, causing quite a bit of controversy.<\/p>\n
“We must understand that the prime minister of the country is the prime minister of the country and we are in public service” – stressed Mirdita.<\/p>\n
“The Prime Minister’s visit to the institution may be important to grow even more in the future and why not be one of the main assets not only of the city of Shkodra but perhaps at the national and regional level” – he added.<\/p>\n
