For the first time in the public healthcare system of North Macedonia, a robot has been used as an assistant in a surgical intervention.<\/p>\n
A surgery for knee arthritis was successfully performed on a 70-year-old patient.<\/p>\n
The operation, conducted with the assistance of the robot, lasted 40 minutes and carried no risk of infection.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe tasks that were previously performed by the surgeon, such as measurements, angles, and others, are now being carried out by the robot, which serves as an assistant to the surgeon. This innovation is making history at the Orthopedic Diseases Clinic. The first operation with the assistance of a robot has been performed, which is no small feat for a small country like ours, to stand shoulder to shoulder with all global clinics and European and global standards,\u201d said Aleksandar Trajanovski, Director of the Traumatology Clinic.<\/p>\n
This robot has been borrowed from Greece, while North Macedonia will soon acquire one for its own needs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will absolutely support all innovations. With this robotics, the chances of infection, both within the hospital and after the operation, are extremely low,\u201d said Minister of Health Fatmir Mexhiti.<\/p>\n
Up until now, citizens of North Macedonia have sought assistance abroad, mainly in Greece, for such orthopedic surgeries. Approximately 300 such interventions are performed annually in the country.<\/p>\n\r\n
