After meetings with young people in different cities, Lulzim Basha returned to participate in the proceedings of the parliamentary session for the first time since the elections on May 14th<\/sup>.<\/p>\n

Basha commented on the events that occurred during and after the meeting of the Democratic Party Presidency two days ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI reject and distance myself from and strongly condemn the banality that was exchanged in a moment of tension, in which journalists were also involved. I strongly condemn any threatening behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked several times about a possible return to run in the elections for the new DP leader scheduled for July 29th<\/sup>, Basha avoided a direct answer.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will show it through actions and not words that I make decisions in the interest of the democrats. I want to tell the democrats that even in this case, I will be guided by their free will.\u201d<\/p>\n

When asked about his lack of activism in the electoral campaign, Basha said that he worked for the candidates and the official logo of the Democratic Party in the May 14th<\/sup> elections, just not publicly.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have not disappeared. I have been here, and I returned with a step forward! I participated in the campaign. I was together with the candidate for Tirana, but I did not want to become a protagonist.\u201d<\/p>\n

After entering the plenary hall, Basha had a heated meeting with Saimir Korreshi and Dashnor Sula, who were among the deputies attacked after they left the meeting of the presidency in the early hours of Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n

During this meeting, Basha reportedly explained his position and distanced himself from the individuals who exerted pressure on the deputies and journalists.<\/p>\n

High tensions accompanied the meeting of the Democratic Party Presidency on June 6th<\/sup>, where an electoral process was decided to elect the new party leader.<\/p>\n

Following discussions on how the internal crisis in the DP should be addressed, deputy Jorida Tabaku declared her resignation from all party functions, as well as rejected the proposal to hold the position of the commanding leader of the DP, a position left vacant after the resignation of Enkelejd Alibeaj.<\/p>\n

A number of other deputies declared their resignations from party functions as well.<\/p>\n

Some deputies left the meeting before voting on the new electoral process took place, only to be confronted with party militants who had stayed outside the premises where the meeting was held.<\/p>\n

Reportedly, Lulzim Basha\u2019s sympathizers were amongst the militants who caused tensions that almost precipitated to physical violence towards deputies, with insults also being thrown at journalists who were reporting on the meeting.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
