Yesterday, the electoral campaign for Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Montenegro ended and today the country is officially in electoral silence.<\/p>\n
Albanian parties compete in three different political coalitions in the June 11 parliamentary elections, “Albanian Forum”, “Alliance for Albanians” and “Albanian Union”.<\/p>\n
In total, there are 15 political parties, coalitions and alliances competing for 81 seats in the Parliament of Montenegro.<\/p>\n
The role of the Albanians may be decisive, as the “Europe Party” of the current president Jakov Milatovi\u0107 is expected to receive 2\/3 of the votes, while it will be the coalition of the current prime minister, Dritan Abazovi\u0107 and the minorities, Croats, Boshnjak and Albanians that are expected to collect 10% of the votes at the state level.<\/p>\n
According to the polls on the eve of Sunday’s elections, 7 MPs will emerge from the ranks of national minorities who may be decisive to reach the number of 41 MPs out of 80 in total, which is the minimum number for the new government in Montenegro.<\/p>\n
542,468 citizens have the right to vote in the parliamentary elections in Montenegro. Voting centers will open tomorrow from 08:00 and close at 20:00.<\/p>\n
Montenegro plays a key role in the stability of the Western Balkans. Also, it is an important factor for NATO, as it offers full control of the Adriatic coast. Beyond that, it has the status of the most successful country in the region in terms of the integration process in the EU.<\/p>\n
Montenegro has about a third of its inhabitants who declare themselves as Serbs. Relations with the Serbian Orthodox Church have long divided the country into two camps – one that seeks close ties between the state and the Church, and the other that advocates a distance from the Church, claiming that the Church personifies Serbia’s continuing influence.<\/p>\n
From 2020, when the government of Djukanovic was overthrown, two more governments were overthrown in Montenegro due to internal conflicts.
