High-level leaders of Kosovo and Albania emphasized on Saturday the strengthening of the position and cooperation of Albanians in the region and stated that integration into the Euro-Atlantic family is a mission that should be pursued with the support of Western allies.<\/p>\n
They made these comments during the celebration of the 145th<\/sup> anniversary of the League of Prizren, which is considered one of the main events in Albanian history.<\/p>\n
The League was founded on June 10th<\/sup>, 1878 to oppose the decisions of the Congress of Berlin and the Treaty of San Stefano, which resulted in Albanian lands being given to the Ottoman Empire to be handed over to the states of Serbia, Montenegro, Bulgaria, and Greece.<\/p>\n
The President of Albania Bajram Begaj said that the future of the Albanian nation will always be richer if divisions between each-other are fought against.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe development and empowerment of the Albanian people in all their lands and integration into the larger Euro-Atlantic family is a mission for which we must all work together. And to fulfill this obligation, we are fortunate that our ancestors have bequeathed us not only language and culture but also old friendships and reliable strategic partners whom we can and should rely on at all times,\u201d said President Begaj.<\/p>\n
Kosovo leaders emphasized cooperation with international allies in fulfilling the aspirations of the Albanian people.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe freedom of Kosovo came through the liberation war of the state of Kosovo, of the people of Kosovo, but also with the unconditional support of the allied states that we still have with us, and for which we will always be grateful,\u201d said the President of Kosovo Vjosa Osmani.<\/p>\n

Kosovo is facing one of the deepest crises in its relations with international allies due to the situation in the northern part of the country.<\/p>\n
The United States has strongly criticized the Kosovo Government for a lack of coordination regarding actions in the north and warned of consequences. Kosovo\u2019s exclusion from the \u201cDefender Europe 2023\u201d exercises was the first punitive step.<\/p>\n
European officials have not ruled out the possibility that the European Union will also impose punitive measures on Kosovo if it fails to fulfill the requirements for reducing tensions in the north.<\/p>\n
Western diplomats say that Kosovo and Serbia must pave the way for the implementation of the agreement reached in Ohrid for the normalization of relations, which includes the establishment of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama said he had submitted a draft statute of the association to French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He said it was a confidential document that takes into account that the Association is part of the organization of life in the Republic of Kosovo.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Rama\u2019s initiative for the Association was met with mixed reactions in Pristina, while the Speaker of the Kosovo Parliament Glauk Konjufca described it as a unilateral action.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn principle, I think it is wrong regardless of the content, it means a defect in principle because the Albanian Prime Minister should not take such actions without consulting with the Prime Minister of Kosovo and without explaining all these issues,\u201d said Konjufca.<\/p>\n
Prime Minister Kurti, who is expected to lead a joint meeting of the two governments with Prime Minister Rama on Wednesday, declined to comment on the initiative.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the European Union said on Friday that \u201cany constructive assistance in negotiations facilitated by the EU, within which the Association is also being discussed, is welcome\u201d, but the issue can only be addressed within the framework of these negotiations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
