United States ambassador in Tirana, Yuri Kim, gave today her last conference as ambassador to Albania.<\/p>\n
The American diplomat said that she is grateful that she had the opportunity to get to know the country, while also focusing on the justice reform, which she said is not perfect but is giving results.<\/p>\n
“During these 3 years, I had the honor of representing the president in Albania. As a young ambassador eager to highlight the special bond between Albania and the USA, I fulfilled my mission. During this mission, I am grateful that I got to know this country, visited its 61 municipalities and, like any ambassador, made my contribution to democracy, defense and business. Albania has made great progress, especially in justice, which it gave the opportunity to officially open negotiations for the EU. I have often said that justice reform is not easy, quick or perfect, but it is giving results. Don’t stop. Keep moving forward step by step until you reach your goal. The US will be with you every step of the way,” the ambassador said.<\/p>\n
During the conference, Kim also commented on the event that happened yesterday after the police control in the camp of Mujahideen organization, in Manze.<\/p>\n
Kim emphasized that it is clear that the USA supports Albania to implement its laws.<\/p>\n
“I think it is a decision that should be taken by the Albanian government, but one thing is very clear that we support the right of Albania to apply its laws in its own country. There are certain terms that apply to every type of guest in your country and these must be followed by them,” said Kim.<\/p>\n
In her speech, Kim also focused on issues that Albania needs to improve, political and socio-economic life. The US ambassador emphasized the continuation of important reforms that have been undertaken by the government, such as justice reform, the eradication of corruption, and the facilitation of procedures in the property issue.<\/p>\n
“Every country has its own challenges, but when we talk about things that should be different in Albania, we say this out of respect and not because we don’t have our own problems. I must clarify that ambassadors serving in Albania do not follow personal agendas. If there is something that needs to be improved, it is important to do that. But it is also important to continue without a break to keep these reforms, as it has been the reform of justice, as it is the eradication of corruption, as it is the easing of procedures on the issue of property, which would make you a better country, richer and stronger, as are other areas of cooperation such as the field of defense”, said Kim.<\/p>\n
Asked by journalists about the difficulty of dealing with former Prime Minister Sali Berisha during her speech, Kim said that every American ambassador faces his own challenges. According to her, this is because every ambassador of the USA has the duty to guide Albania towards the future at all times.<\/p>\n
“Each ambassador faces his own challenges, but there is something with the USA, we always face the future. Every American ambassador who has served in the past, who is currently serving, or who will serve in the future, will always try to lead Albania towards the future,” said Kim.<\/p>\n
