The Parliament of Hungary will not ratify Sweden\u2019s accession to NATO before the summer break, as this issue is not included in the agenda for the upcoming week, according to reports from Hungarian media.<\/p>\n

Websites such as hvg.hu and index.hu reported that Parliament, where the majority belongs to Viktor Orb\u00e1n\u2019s Fidesz party, will further postpone the vote, resulting in a deterioration of relations with Sweden.<\/p>\n

The Hungarian Parliament\u2019s media office has not confirmed these reports but stated that the agenda for the upcoming session will be finalized on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Left-wing opposition legislator \u00c1gnes Vadai wrote on Facebook<\/strong><\/a><\/span> that Orb\u00e1n will not put Sweden\u2019s NATO membership to a vote in the next session.<\/p>\n

The Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not respond to Reuters\u2019 request for comment on this issue.<\/p>\n

Sweden and Finland abandoned their longstanding policy of military non-alignment following Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine last year. Both countries sought greater security and expressed their desire to join NATO. Finland became a member of the alliance in April, but the process for Sweden has been slower.<\/p>\n

Sweden is seeking to join the alliance during the summit on July 11 and 12. While Stockholm has support from other member states, including the United States, Turkey, and Hungary, these countries have not yet ratified Sweden\u2019s accession to NATO.<\/p>\n

With the ratification process blocked in the Hungarian Parliament since last July, Orb\u00e1n expressed concerns about Sweden\u2019s and Finland\u2019s membership in NATO for the first time in February.<\/p>\n

He accused both countries of \u201cspreading lies\u201d about democracy and the rule of law in Hungary, even though Hungarian lawmakers ratified Finland\u2019s membership at the end of March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
