On the 28th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, the European Union has warned that denial of genocide, revisionism of history and glorification of war criminals cannot be tolerated.<\/p>\n
This was said in a joint statement by the EU’s high representative for foreign policy and security, Josep Borrell, and the commissioner for enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi.<\/span><\/p>\n “28 years ago, one of the darkest pages in the history of Europe was written. We share the condolences and pain of the families and friends of the victims and survivors of the genocide in Srebrenica. Europe remembers its responsibility and failure to protect. Today, when war is again taking place on the continent of Europe, we pledge to do better to protect peace and protect people’s lives,” the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n The two top EU officials expressed support for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European aspirations and its sovereignty.<\/span><\/p>\n “In marking the anniversary of the consequences of the armed conflict, the European Union reiterates its commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. As a candidate country, the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the EU”, it was said in the joint statement of Borrell and Varhely.<\/span><\/p>\n They called for reconciliation and peace building based on truth.<\/span><\/p>\n “Reconciliation can only be built on truth, peace and justice. There can be no tolerance for genocide denial, historical revisionism and the glorification of war criminals.
