In the year 2022, the search for skilled labor became significantly more complex as a result of emigration, leaving many businesses struggling to find sufficient employees. This situation sparked wage increases in various sectors of the economy.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, men seemed to have benefited more from these developments compared to women.<\/p>\n
Recent data from the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) reveals that in 2022, the average wages for men experienced a faster rate of growth compared to women.<\/p>\n
On average, employees in the country earned 61,898 Albanian lek gross per month in 2022, reflecting a nominal increase of 8.2%.<\/p>\n
For men, the average salary reached 63,773 Albanian lek, showing a rise of 9.2%.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, women earned an average salary of 59,813 lek, which represented a 7.3% increase from the previous year.<\/p>\n
The steeper wage growth for men contributed to the widening gender pay gap, which saw women being paid 6.2% less than men in 2022. This gap had previously decreased to 4.2% in 2021. Nevertheless, this disparity was still lower compared to 2015, when men\u2019s average wages were 11.5% higher than women\u2019s.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, female executives appeared to be an exception to this trend.<\/p>\n
Data from INSTAT showed that out of the 36 professional groups reported, women were paid more than men in only five of them.<\/p>\n
The field where women excelled was leadership. Specifically, in the \u201cAdministrative and commercial managers\u201d professional group, women earned an average gross monthly salary of 189,393 lek in 2022. This figure not only represented the highest pay among all professional groups in the country but was also 11.1% higher than the average salary of their male counterparts. The salaries for this professional group increased by approximately 10% compared to the previous year, for both men and women.<\/p>\n
Another profession where women outearned men was \u201cElectro-technology workers\u201d, with women receiving 64,365 lek, or 10.7% more than men.<\/p>\n
In two other professions, \u201cService and support workers\u201d and \u201cPersonal and protective services workers\u201d, women earned 1.3% and 1.1% more than men, respectively.<\/p>\n
The administration sector demonstrated pay equality, with \u201cLegislators, senior state administration officials, and executive directors\u201d earning the same salary of around 92,000 lek per month, regardless of gender.<\/p>\n
However, the education sector exhibited a preference for men, as they were paid nearly 80,000 lek per month, which was 12% more than women in the same profession.<\/p>\n
Even within the healthcare sector, a gender wage gap persisted. The \u201cHealth specialists\u201d professional group paid men 85,800 lek per month, which was 13.8% more than women. Similarly, \u201cSpecialized health assistants\u201d earned around 8% more than their female counterparts.<\/p>\n
