Archaeological monuments are among the most important assets, which have made Durr\u00ebs the main center of tourism in Albania.<\/p>\n
Beside Durr\u00ebs’ beach, almost all foreign visitors have as part of their agenda visits to archaeological sites and the 3000-year history of the port city.<\/p>\n
“We have a standard tour. We visit the amphitheater, the Roman baths, the Venetian Torra, then we move on to those related to the economic activity of the city, such as the Byzantine Market, and we conclude with the coast and the cuisine of Durr\u00ebs,” said Vangjel Dimro\u00e7i, tourist guide.<\/p>\n
The amphitheater, one of the wonders of Roman civilization from the time of Emperor Trajan, is first on the list.<\/p>\n
During summer season Durr\u00ebs has welcomed over 13,000 visitors.<\/p>\n
“We have a high number of visitors and incomes. If we talk concretely only about the amphitheater, last year about 6,000 tourists have visit it, while this year, for the same period, we are in the numbers of 13,000 visitors” – Alban Ramohitaj, director of the museum center in Durr\u00ebs.<\/p>\n
Tourists that have visited Durr\u00ebs this year came from all over the world.<\/p>\n
“Polish tourists have dominated, while now in September we have more German, Spanish and Italian tourists” – Ina Ajazi, tourist guide.<\/p>\n
“It’s amazing. It is wonderful how in this city new buildings “co-exist” with such old buildings. It is something I have never seen before” – said the tourist.<\/p>\n
“I am excited, because it is a site with a very distant history. It makes me think of the Colosseum in Rome,” the tourist said.<\/p>\n
There is always room for improvement, so the authorities promise continuous improvement.<\/p>\n
From Vlora to Trieste, Durr\u00ebs remains the oldest city on the eastern side of the Adriatic Sea. This has increased the interest of foreigners in the museums and monuments discovered, mainly in the second half of the last century.<\/p>\n
