The Kosovo Police apprehended two individuals at a hotel in Banjska, Zvecan, as confirmed to Euronews Albania by Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of Police for the northern region.<\/p>\n
The arrests were made on the evening of September 25, primarily on charges of possessing firearms without proper authorization, according to Elshani.<\/p>\n
He further added that ongoing investigations will determine whether these arrests are linked to the attack on Kosovo Police that occurred on September 24, resulting in the tragic death of a Kosovo police officer.<\/p>\n
Elshani indicated that the authorities suspect the involvement of these detained individuals in hotel employment, hinting at a possible connection to the establishment. Notably, the firearms in question were discovered within the confines of the hotel itself.<\/p>\n
This discovery comes just a day after the fatal shooting of Afrim Bunjaku, a Kosovar police officer, in Banjska, Zvecan.<\/p>\n
The incident involved a confrontation between an armed group, which Kosovo authorities have accused Serbia of supporting, and local police officers at the Banjska Monastery.<\/p>\n
Three suspected assailants lost their lives in the clash, while six others were taken into custody.<\/p>\n
Xhelal Sve\u00e7la, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Kosovo, made allegations suggesting the involvement of Milan Radoji\u010di\u0107, Deputy Head of the Serb List, the primary political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, in organizing and participating in the attack on the police officers. Notably, there has been no official response from the Serb List or Serbian institutions regarding these allegations.<\/p>\n
Kosovo\u2019s Prime Minister Albin Kurti characterized the armed individuals responsible for the attack as \u201ca highly organized and professional unit that had come to Kosovo with the intent to engage in combat\u201d.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Serbia\u2019s President Aleksandar Vu\u010di\u0107 contended that the armed individuals were local Serbs from Kosovo who had reached their breaking point due to what he described as the oppressive actions of the Kurti administration.<\/p>\n
